The Mechelse Heide attracts numerous hikers, especially in August and September. That’s when the purple heather is in full bloom. However, this area, which is part of the Hoge Kempen National Park, is utterly charming in the other seasons too. The coniferous forests, gravel pit and pond provide the route with plenty of variety.

The red route combines all the beauty of the Mechelse Heide. There is the occasional steep climb, but the panoramas make up for all the hard work. The small Ven onder de Berg nature reserve is a special place that is almost completely overgrown with peat moss. An extraordinary sight!

Along the way, you will also come across two dog-walking zones where your loyal friend can let off some steam.

The area is managed by the Agency for Nature and Forests.
