Hike 11 km in the beauty of nature in Sint-Maartensheide and De Luysen on the red route. This area, managed by Natuurpunt and VLM, offers a unique combination of dry oak forests, marshes, ponds and agricultural areas. The ponds are home to rare birds and dragonflies, making it a paradise for bird lovers.

Walk along the course of the Abeek, a crucial stream for the Kempen-Broek Border Park, and enjoy panoramic views of De Luysen ponds. Three observation huts offer a perfect spot for birdwatching, while the Voorste Luysmolen, with a cosy picnic meadow, beckons you to take a break there.

The area is home to a rich diversity of flora and fauna, including rare dragonflies, the tree frog and special butterflies.

De Luysen is even considered one of the top birding areas in Flanders, with species that appeal to the imagination such as Savi's warbler, the bittern, woodcock and snipe. They are in their element on and around the wild vegetation and reed beds.

Sint-Maartensheide, in turn, offers open landscapes with enchanting views. Wooded borders and pools provide variety.

Please note that dogs are not allowed on this route.
