Follow the blue hiking route, also known as the Reigerpad, through the forest and wetland landscape of Resterheide, managed by Natuurpunt. This hike is perfect if you want to venture out with the kids, as several educational and playful elements await you along the route.

Your tour starts at the Begijnenvijvers, once dug by order of the nuns of the Agneten Convent in Peer. The observation tower alongside the pond offers a lovely view of the surroundings. How many waterbirds do you see?

Despite the area's name (‘heide’ means heathland or heather), you won't spot heathland here, but you will find coniferous and deciduous forests, natural fields and farmland. What’s more, you will encounter some adventurous obstacles along the way, such as the wobbly rope bridge and the squirrel spiral, a climbing and scrambling course. About halfway along the route you walk through Arboretum Wijchmaal where you can see lots of oak species.
