The rolling Haspengouw landscape will fascinate you. You walk past standard orchards, large fields and stream valleys. You set off from the impressive Grand Commandery Alden Biesen, surrounded by a French garden and an English garden dating back to the 18th century.

The historic castle complex of Alden Biesen breathes history and its story begins in the 13th century with the German Order of the Teutonic Knights. The hike leads you along the Maastrichterallee via the Apostle’s House to the stately lime tree avenues. Six avenues converge here, which was once the main entrance to Alden Biesen. Enjoy beautiful views of the region and the recently planted vineyard.

On the way to Wine Castle Genoels-Elderen, the turning point of the hike, you can taste the diversity of the landscape between fields, meadows and orchards.

Sip a glass of wine on the terrace of the wine castle and you’ll feel like you're in France for a moment. The route is largely unpaved and hilly, so you can put the extra calories to good use.

Nature on the road is managed by the Agency for Nature and Forests Natuurpunt and Orchis.
