The 12.6 km purple hiking route combines the stunning nature reserve of Hoksent-Molhem with the centre of the town of Peer. Providing an exquisite mix of nature and culture.
At the Dommelhuis, located right at the starting point, you can find out more about the history of the Dommel Valley, the importance of water and soil and how to adopt a smart approach to water. Be sure to take a little diversion via the boardwalk across the pond.
The brisk hike leads you through the Dommel Valley with its characteristic wooded borders and stream valley landscape with meadows. You cross the meandering river several times. You will notice that this is a wetland area after all when you hike through swampy alder carr along the boardwalks. Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots are definitely recommended.
About halfway along the route, you pass five burial mounds dating from 800 to 500 BC. Prehistoric man worked this fertile land. The beginning of a long history of agriculture, as witnessed by the long-fronted farmhouses.
