Thank you for visiting the Visit Limburg website!

We, Toerisme Limburg VZW, with its registered office at 3500 Hasselt, Universiteitslaan 3 and registered in the Kruispuntbank van Ondernemingen under number 0420.092.944 (RPR Antwerpen, Hasselt division) (‘we’ or ‘us’), wish to inform visitors to our website through this cookie statement about which cookies and/or similar technologies are used on our website, why we do so and how you can delete or disable cookies.

This cookie statement may be amended by us if new developments warrant it. You can always find the most up-to-date version of the cookie statement on our website.

  1. What is a cookie?

A cookie is generally a small text and number file that, during a visit to our website, we send and store in your web browser or on your mobile device.  When you visit our website again using the same web browser or device, this information is sent back to our website. Cookies help us to remember, for example, your preferences when using our website (e.g. your choice of language), unless you have adjusted your browser settings so that it will refuse cookies.

  1. Types of cookies

There are different types of cookies. Cookies can be divided according to their origin, their function and their lifetime:

  • First-party cookies are technical cookies placed by us that ensure that our website functions properly. This increases the quality of our services.
  • Third-party cookies are cookies placed by a domain name other than that of our website. If a user visits a website and a third-party places a cookie through that website, this is a third-party cookie. For cookies placed by third-parties, please refer to the statements these parties make on their respective websites about them. Please note that we cannot exert any influence on the content of those statements nor on the content of the cookies of these third parties.

We can further divide first- and third-party cookies into, among others:

  • Essential or strictly necessary cookies are (as their name indicates) necessary for the website to function properly, e.g. by establishing a certain connection. We may set these cookies without your previous consent;
  • Non-essential cookies are cookies that can be set for statistical, social, targeting and commercial purposes. They have nothing to do with the purely technical support of the website. Non-essential cookies can be first-party or third-party cookies and can only be set and used by us if you have given us your prior consent via the cookie banner.

Different types of non-functional cookies can be distinguished:

  • Cookies with statistical purposes allow, among other things, to identify which pages of the website you visit, where your computer is located, etc.
  • Cookies with social purposes allow the user to share the content of the visited website directly with others via social media.
  • Cookies with targeting purposes allow a profile to be built based on your browsing behaviour so that the ads shown are tailored to your interests.
  • Cookies with commercial purposes keep track of how many and which ads were shown to a user.

Cookies can also be divided according to their lifetime:

  • Permanent cookies: These cookies remain on the user's device for the duration defined in the cookie. They are activated each time the user visits the website that set this cookie. Most non-essential cookies are permanent cookies.
  • Session cookies: These cookies allow us to simplify and link a user's actions during a browser session. A browser session starts when a user opens the browser window and ends when they close the browser window. Session cookies are placed temporarily. Once you close the browser, all session cookies are deleted. Most functional cookies are session cookies.
  1. Information on the use of cookies on our website

For the most complete and up-to-date overview of all the different cookies used on the Visit Limburg website, please consult our cookie banner. Click cookie settings > show details > show cookies for the overview.

Please read our privacy declaration to learn how we process personal data, secure it, how long we keep it and what privacy rights you have.

  1. Accept cookies

When you visit our website for the first time, a cookie banner will appear. Using this cookie banner, we inform you about which cookies we use, and ask you whether we may use analytical and/or advertising cookies. You are free to agree or not.

Please note, however, that some functionalities on our website may not work or may not work fully if not all cookies are accepted.

  1. Managing (deleting or disabling) cookies

How long a cookie remains on your computer or mobile device depends on whether it is a ‘permanent’ or ‘session’ cookie. Session cookies remain until you stop browsing and permanent cookies remain until they expire or are deleted. See below on how to manage cookies for more information on deleting them before they expire.

If you do not want websites to place cookies on your computer or you want to delete your cookies, you can change your cookie settings in your web browser.

These settings can usually be found in the ‘Options’ or ‘Preferences’ menu of your web browser. You can also adjust your settings so that your browser refuses all cookies or only third-party cookies.
