Zwartberg airfield

From deep-deeper-deepest in the mine to high-higher-highest in the air: Zwartberg airfield was built in the 1950s. Its 800-metre tarmac runway makes it ideal for power planes. There is also a long grass runway for gliders. The former Zwartberg mine spoil tip serves as a useful landmark for the pilots. So coal mining still has a role to play today!
