Turkish Mosque

The minaret of the Green Mosque, which was built in one day, is twenty metres high. A minaret belongs on a mosque, just as a tower belongs on a church. The Turkish community sees it as a symbol of their meeting point for prayer, cultural and educational activities.

A local guide provides the tour in this Islamic house of prayer, which was set up next to the pump housing of the former water tower at the highest point of the 'Meulenberg' mining quarter.

The lovely interior with terrific pulpits and elegantly tiled niche that point towards the East (Mekka), is a reference to Oriental Art.
