The Headframe (Schachtbok)
At almost 52 metres tall, the headframe has dominated Heusden-Zolder since 1924. This steel structure by the Würth company was the mine’s lifeline for decades: miners descended into the depths here, and the black gold rose to the surface.
Protected since 1993, the tower is far from becoming a static museum piece. A major restoration began in 2024 to prepare it for a new future. As part of the ZLDR Air Factory experience, the tower will soon be accessible.
A glass lift will whisk you up to a covered viewing platform. Where the shaft wheels once turned, you’ll soon enjoy magnificent views over the Limburg mining landscape.
An experience to look forward to!
