The Heusden-Zolder mine was the last in the Benelux to close. These days the ZLDR Luchtfabriek (air factory) and the market square are the hubs of the site.

This is a magnificent space for Heusden-Zolder. The former hoisting machine building and the compressed air plant have been transformed into a fascinating space where you can experience the area's mining past in all its glory.

Walk among the giant compressors of the hoisting machine building to the balcony with iets beautiful view. Watching intriguing films, admire the impressive architecture and the effects of the works of light art by Jaap van den Elzen and Lego constructions by Dirk Denoyelle, among others. Along the way, ex-miners will talk to you.

MijnMarkt lies in the shadow of our pit tower, the largest multicultural market in Limburg. The exotic offer, old-fashioned conviviality and competitive prices ... Avid shoppers or day-trippers can indulge themselves at MijnMarkt. This unique historical location gives visitors just that little something extra and tells a story of past and present. And now you can also take a breather on the beautiful terrace of the new MuzeCafé.

It is open every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month between 12 pm and 5 pm. MijnMarkt is easily accessible by public transport and there's plenty of parking for cars and bikes. Parking is also free in the Brancardiers car park, as well as on Schachtplein and Koolmijnlaan.

Mining site The Shaft Heusden-Zolder

In 1992, the last mine in the Benelux closed its doors in Zolder. Yet it was the first place where the listed buildings were given a new purpose. Together with the shaft tower, the Monnoyer chimney and the mortuary, they remain visible relics of the 'black gold'. The power station 'Watt 17' was skillfully restored. The multipurpose building 'De Verdieping' houses a passion school, the CVO and in the restored collection machine building you can visit the heritage walk ZLDR AIR FACTORY for free.
The Market Square comes alive every second and fourth Wednesday of the month during the multicultural market 'MijnMarkt'.
You can explore these buildings, the mine site and surroundings through the themed walks: Mine Architecture Walk, Terril Walk and Garden District Walk.
