Teseum: archaeological site

Through the generations, the people of Tongeren built a town to live and work in. The walls and foundations of that town are still standing. They can be admired on the archaeological site of the Teseum, one of the most inspiring sites in the Benelux countries. Here you will be able to see with your own eyes that Tongeren was the first town in Belgium. Three metres below ground, age-old stones tell the story of the town, its inhabitants and the church. That story started 2000 years ago with the Roman rulers, and is still being written today. This site is the unmissable starting point for any visit of Tongeren.

You will make a tour with a multimedia guide, a digital tool brimming with stories that will enthral young and old, as well as providing the information sought by real history enthusiasts. The multimedia guide is available in 4 languages.

After your visit, you can spend some time in the atmospheric cloister.
