Welcome to the world of experimental archaeology – an exciting branch of archaeological research that brings ancient techniques and crafts back to life. Not just by reading about them, but by trying them out yourself! This hands-on approach gives you real insight into the past and lets you experience what it was like to live as a potter, hunter, or blacksmith.
In the Discovery Cellar, children can get to work alongside an adult: craft your own arrow with a flint tip, decorate a pot in prehistoric style, make copper wire jewellery, try on a chainmail shirt like a medieval knight... and much more. With no fewer than 22 different hands-on activities, you’ll playfully explore the everyday life of our ancestors.
