The route is signposted, but is also made clear via directions on the walking map.
Taking this route with an E-car is definitely recommended!

City Walk Bree

Bree has three city halls! The oldest one is located on the Market and is now the home base for tourism and information. The building contains a remarkable rococo pediment in which the coat of arms of Bree is incorporated. The second city hall is located on the City Square and currently houses the Peace Court and the services of the Ministry of Finance. This city hall has a unique balcony, from which King Boudewijn, Queen Fabiola, Prince Filip, Princess Mathilde, but also Kim Clijsters, have greeted the gathered crowd. The current city hall, located on the Free Square, was a former monastery and school. The building is 17th century and a real gem. Both the outside with the beautiful Renaissance garden, and the inside are worth a visit. This and much more can be found during your city walk in Bree. The route is free to pick up at Tourism Bree. There is also the possibility to take a city walk with a guide, which can be reserved through Tourism Bree.

Well, why not go for a walk with one of our donkeys ?

The little donkeys of B & B De Romeinse Katzei are eager to go out with you.

We mapped out 2 loop walks :

- The walking loop ' Reading between the Lines ' is a 7,5 km loop walk with start and finish at B & B De Romeinse Katzei. Along the way we stop at Landmark Roman Villa for a snack and a drink. Highlight of the walk ( besides walking with the donkeys themselves ! ) is the see-through church, Reading between the Lines .

- The walking route 'Looking for Hellsheaven ' is also 7,5 km and starts and ends at B & B De Romeinse Katzei. Along the way we stop at the Tjenneboom for refreshments.

Before going on a walk with Nelleke, Olina or one of the other donkeys , there will be an extensive cuddling moment and they will be prepared by you for the walk.

This trail introduces you to Hoeselt's hilly landscape. Stroll through alleys, along green roads and higher arable land. Also enjoy the hollow roads & beautiful vistas. In the final stage of your hike, you'll pass the consolation spot cross lime tree and the imposing #inconcreto work of art that rises, as it were, from the Hoeselt farmland and serves as a vantage point.

Donkey experiences

At Kisserhoeve, we offer a variety of different donkey experiences in Kempen~Broek. Kempen~Broek is a veritable patchwork of different landscapes, where marshes feature alongside brook valleys, fens, woods, heath, meadows, pastures, fields and large-scale agricultural areas. In short, something for everyone, with water as the recurring theme.

Our experiences:

- Donkey walk
You’ll get to lead our easy-going donkeys on a walk. Once you arrive, you’ll be welcomed by our team, and given a 15-minute introductory session going over health and safety, and to pair you up with the perfect donkey for you! Then, it’s time to set off! You’ll walk alongside your donkey and lead them around rural roads and nature.
You'll receive a backpack with a snack for you and the donkeys!
You can choose two distances, 5 km and 6,5 km.

Happiness... is making memories together!

- Kisserweide experience (only in spring-summer)
For a few hours you will have our grassland: 'Kisserweide' with the donkeys. You can freely use the accommodation. Taking care of the donkeys, taking a walk. Playing with games from "the wooden cabin", relaxing in the sitting area with picnic table. You can choose whatever you want to do, there is no timetable for activities. Picnic is allowed. Hiking trails to use with the donkeys are available.

Discover the (bio)diversity of 3 streams and their valleys in Eggertingen

The Eggertingen nature reserve is located in the south of Kortessem and ends in Hoeselt and Borgloon. On foot you will discover the (bio)diversity of 3 streams and their valleys. Along the slopes you will get to know surprising views of old landscape elements such as beautiful wooded edges, standard orchards and flower-rich meadows.

In the Uilenbos there are, in addition to the wood anemone, the spotted arum, the celandine weed can also admire the ground elder and the wasp orchid.

You can explore the Eggertingen nature reserve via 2 routes, each between 5 and 10 km.

Discover the unique and protected landscape around Kuttekoven on our poetry walk. You will find several poems by Herman Rohaert along our orange walk (7.5 km Greenspot Rullingen).

The starting point of Greenspot Rullingen has been moved to the Stationsplein (entrance to the Fruit Experience Centre Stroopfabriek).

As in the past, sheep and cattle help manage the moist grasslands. The area is rightfully the gateway to De Wijers. The routes vary between 1 and 9 km and allow you to experience De Wijers in all its facets.

You really do not only find art in dusty museum rooms.
During a nature hike there is suddenly a work of art in front of you. That is what we call art in the public space. In addition, there are a lot of things you can do in nature that you are not allowed to do in a museum.
You can walk, talk, play, shout ... Even touching the works of art is allowed!
At the Borgloon tourist office, you can get a collection of to-do and sightseeing tips that you can use with every work of art.

Kasteeldomein 't Speelhof - Domein het Speelhof

Enjoy this lovely greenspot and castle on walking distance of the Market Place. The walking tour ‘Hidden beauties’ guides you through the Regional Landscape Haspengouw and Voeren. The beautiful rose garden is being maintained by the gardeners of ‘Tuinhier Volkstuinen’ and Wiric. Children can visit the new inhabitants (alpaca’s, goats, pigs, rabbits, mule’s, pony’s…) and enjoy themselves on the playground, surrounded by nature and threes. You can sit down and grab a bite or have a drink in Afspanning ‘t Speelhof.

The Kruinenpad

As of the dike of the Zuid-Willemsvaart, you will leave for a unique adventure, literally being ‘a high-level experience’. The Tree Crown Path passes through the crowns of the trees and is a real elevated bridge installed in the mine subsidence area. This unique trail provides a privileged view of the remarkable consequences of the mine subsidence in a beautiful setting. But your eyes will also be popping out of your head with all those birds and insects between the trees. The Kruinenpad is 181 meters long.

The Kruinenpad is located between cycling junctions 48 and 55.
Do you want to discover the Kruinenpad on foot? Follow the red-blazed trail (14km) from RivierPark Maasvallei, departing from Leut.

Do you want to visit The Kruinenpad by car? Park in parallel at the end of Kerkhofstraat in Eisden-Dorp and walk towards the canal dyke. Attention! Do not park past the barrier even if it is open.

Long distance hike 'De Wijers'

De Wijers is a region where the real nature lover is at home. The ponds – we call them the ‘Wijers’ - are a paradise for many rare plants and animals. Proper hikers can enjoy the region’s most beautiful spots on the 82K long-distance hike. Or choose one of the 20K loops for a day's hike. There are 15 starting points in the area, to start your hike.

Rozenroute - rozenpark Geistingen

Rose Trail

From mid-June to mid-September, Geistingen is ablaze with the most beautiful colours of roses, with no fewer than 2,000 roses adorning Mariapark that time of year. A total of 6,000 roses can be admired in this beautiful Meuse village. Come and experience this period with us. The rose route is 6 km long and takes you, among others, along the ornamental garden and rose garden of the Pepels family and Luc Van Esser’s ADR Rosarium Geistinger Landhoff. During this period, both gardens can be visited on Wednesdays by individual visitors free of charge.
The price of the hiking map is €3.00. You will be offered a ‘dröpke’ (a ‘drop’ of alcohol) and an ice cream along the way.

In 2012, the Bronnenwandeling in the Voerstreek was voted the Most Beautiful Hiking Route of Flanders Holiday Region. The sources walk is located in a beautiful piece of remote Flanders. This route takes you along the typical half-timbered houses and a beautiful grafted landscape. Also discover the badger setts. Starting place: VCCV het Veltmanshuis, Kwinten 3 - 3790 Sint-Martens-Voeren.

In Genk you can enjoy walking in the green. Have you ever tried the Planetenpad?

The planet trail is a 1.4 km walk through the wooded Kattevennen. Meet the eight planets of our Solar System and enjoy all the beauty that nature has to offer.
The solar system is presented here 4 billion times smaller than in reality.

Please note: this route is not a loop. The start is at the Kattevennen visitors' centre. You can return in two ways. Either you go back down the trail, but then in the opposite direction, or you follow the green walking route (total distance 4.5 km) to the visitors centre.

Discover the unique silence and vastness of this heathland. Definitely recommended in August-September, when the heather turns purple. While walking through the loose sand you will come across a glittering fen here and there. Even in prehistoric times, hunters came here to polish their axes at the 'Holsteen'. A unique hike.

Explore the vast forests of Bosland in Pijnven, where you can choose from 3 walking routes. The blue route is specially designed for children, where they can play among the trees and build camps.
The orange route passes the artwork 'Cycling through the Trees' in Bosland.

Hiking Kattenvennen

Signposted routes take you to quiet places of enjoyment in the pine forest of Kattevennen. From the parking lot of the domain you can start your hike to the Marien cave of Wiemesmeer or to the Heempark.
The green route is 4.6, the blue 7.2 and the red 9.6 km. A new yellow loop of 11.5 km connects Kattevennen with the Hei- en meibos of Sledderlo and the surfing lake Papendaalheide.

The Kattevennen walking map is available in the visitors' centre (€ 2).

In south-east Tongeren you can step out of the lively buzz of the city centre, straight into a calm, green oasis. The extensive De Kevie nature reserve is home to many valuable flora and fauna. Empty meadows give way to dense marshland, while the river Jeker meanders through valley woodlands full of thick woodland borders, centuries-old knot willows and transparent pools and ditches. Every day, hundreds of walkers, cyclists and sport lovers come here to enjoy the fresh air.

Koersels Kapelleke is the ideal trip for families with small children. You will find walking routes of 2.6 km, 3.5 km, 6.8 km and 7.1 km.
You walk through woods and along heathland. There are several catering establishments and there is a large playground. Make sure you visit the visitor center 'De Watersnip' for more information about the local fauna and flora.

The Kempen, the Maasland and Haspengouw are never far away here.
In Lieteberg, you stand with both feet in the Hoge Kempen National Park and can enjoy peace and quiet during one of the many signposted walking routes in and around Lieteberg.

With more than 10 000 ha of forest and heathland, it is a wonderful place to be during a walk or a bike ride.

De Groote Heide cross-border nature reserve

De Groote Heide cross-border nature reserve covers an area of no less than 6,000 hectares that stretches from the green south side of Eindhoven to far across the border with Belgium in Pelt and Hamont-Achel. You can, for example, stroll along the babbling water of the Dommel, stand eye to eye with the cattle in De Plateaux-Hageven or chill out on the terrace of the Achelse Kluis with a refreshing Achelse Trappist beer.

De Groote Heide embodies the very best the outdoors has to offer. Made up of lots of smaller nature reserves, each with its own value, charm and potential. They are connected by an excellent cycling and hiking route network. Admire the beautiful rural and agricultural countryside in between and all around. And don't forget the water! Dozens of fens are scattered throughout the area. From the south, a wide range of streams and brooks end in the Dommel.

The various nature gateways form the ideal start to your visit to the Cross-border Nature Reserve and have something for everyone!

Heiderbos - heiderbos

Nature Reserve 'Heiderbos'

The Heiderbos, part of hiking area Thorpark, is a beautiful piece of nature. This small but extremely valuable 41-hectare nature reserve is the only location in Flanders where you can still find a large population of juniper bushes. To preserve, protect and strengthen this rare species, the juniper was adopted by As in 2006.
