Ready for a brisk 12 km hike through the Heers countryside? Grasslands, fields, meadows and orchards surround you along the way. Every so often you’ll come across a castle or square farmstead. If you drink a sip of water every time you see one, you will stay fully hydrated.

The source of the River Mombeek is in Widooie. You follow the river for a while before it winds its way further north. The yellow arrows point you to Bommershoven, another characteristic agricultural village.

Just outside the village centre, you walk through Tranendreef. Tall trees stand like sentinels along the edge of the path. From April to September, teardrop-shaped tents hang from four of the trees. An original spot to spend the night for those looking for more than your average hotel room.

Before the loop is complete, you pass another gigantic square farm: the Monnikenhof is one of the largest farms in Haspengouw.
