Donkey experiences

At Kisserhoeve, we offer a variety of different donkey experiences in Kempen~Broek. Kempen~Broek is a veritable patchwork of different landscapes, where marshes feature alongside brook valleys, fens, woods, heath, meadows, pastures, fields and large-scale agricultural areas. In short, something for everyone, with water as the recurring theme.

Our experiences:

- Donkey walk
You’ll get to lead our easy-going donkeys on a walk. Once you arrive, you’ll be welcomed by our team, and given a 15-minute introductory session going over health and safety, and to pair you up with the perfect donkey for you! Then, it’s time to set off! You’ll walk alongside your donkey and lead them around rural roads and nature.
You'll receive a backpack with a snack for you and the donkeys!
You can choose two distances, 5 km and 6,5 km.

Happiness... is making memories together!

- Kisserweide experience (only in spring-summer)
For a few hours you will have our grassland: 'Kisserweide' with the donkeys. You can freely use the accommodation. Taking care of the donkeys, taking a walk. Playing with games from "the wooden cabin", relaxing in the sitting area with picnic table. You can choose whatever you want to do, there is no timetable for activities. Picnic is allowed. Hiking trails to use with the donkeys are available.

The Adventure Lab Cache "Dwars door HouthalenCentrum" is a fun hike (about 1 hour) that you follow on an app on your smartphone. You take a fun trip through the center of Houthalen by answering questions and some waypoints.
If you answer all the assignments correctly, a fun bonus cache awaits you.

Butterfly walk

From egg to caterpillar, from caterpillar to chrysalis, from chrysalis to butterfly: on this walk children learn about the different stages of a butterfly’s development while playing. The fairytale-like play and experience elements by artist Will Beckers that you encounter along the way are accompanied by educational explanations and tasks for children.

From egg to caterpillar… and from cocoon to butterfly… A butterfly only mates once in its life and can lay 200 to 300 eggs. Some butterfly species drop their eggs as they fly. And those are the eggs that you come across as stepping stones on your way through the woods. You will also find a jumbo and playable caterpillar, the butterfly’s miraculous growth process in the cocoon and a real butterfly takes children on its flight.

Gnome Trail

The Gnome Trail at Domein Pietersheim has been one of the most popular attractions for years. Along the 3 km trail, children are invited to take part in various games, with colourful information along the route providing the details. The kids get to hug the big tree, crawl through a natural tunnel, make music with real gnome instruments or simply dream away in the park.

The Gnome Trail underwent a transformation in the spring of 2020. We welcomed new gnomes to the woods, new squirrels that show you the way and more little houses to discover. As the icing on the cake, there is a large gnome house at the children’s farm. The Gnome Trail can be started at the information signs at the children’s farm or at the moated castle bridge. Both follow the same route (indicated on posts). No map is needed. Distance: 40,000 gnome steps.

In Genk you can enjoy walking in the greenery. Have you ever tried the Planetenpad?

The planet trail is a 1.4 km walk through the wooded Kattevennen. Meet the eight planets of our Solar System and enjoy all the beauty that nature has to offer.
The solar system is presented here 4 billion times smaller than in reality.

Please note: this route is not a loop. The start is at the Kattevennen visitor centre. You can return in two ways. Either you go back down the trail, but then in the opposite direction, or you follow the green walking route (total distance 4.5 km) to the visitor centre.

In the northeast of Lommel, on the border with the Netherlands, lies Lommel-Colonie with the nature reserve "De Watering". The Watering houses no fewer than 120 bird species and about 350 different plant species have been inventoried so far.

We mapped out 2 loop walks :

- The walking loop ' Reading between the Lines ' is a 7,5 km loop walk with start and finish at B&B De Romeinse Katzei. Along the way we stop at Landmark Roman Villa for a snack and a drink. Highlight of the walk ( besides walking with the donkeys themselves ! ) is the see-through church, Reading between the Lines .

- The walking route 'Looking for Hellsheaven ' is also 7,5 km and starts and ends at B&B De Romeinse Katzei. Along the way we stop at the Tjenneboom for refreshments.

Before going on a walk with Nelleke, Olina or one of the other donkeys , there will be an extensive cuddling moment and they will be prepared by you for the walk.

Kisserweide, an experience in and around nature

Kisserweide, which can be described as e special place, is located next to the nature reserve "De Zig" in Molenbeersel. People, nature and animals come together at Kisserweide. There is a play area for young and old, you can chill out in the chill-corner, go for a donkey ride or even learn to ride a horse during one of the pony-riding lessons.
That's right: people an animals go hand in hand while you enjoy the peace an quiet and the many regional produce.

Stimulus Path

Experience nature along the route that was created for children and young people with a disability. The Stimulus Path starts at the Flemish Visitors Centre ‘De Watersnip’. Along the walking route you will pass 12 "experience elements". They include touch boxes, a sound labyrinth, a wiglo, a visual wall, touching stones, etc. Visitors are stimulated with scents, sounds (or silence), colours, structures, movements, etc. The five senses play a central role in the development of children.

The Stimulus Path is fun for everyone, especially for families with young children. Part of the path runs through the playground at the Koersels Kapelleke.

You can borrow a guide book from the visitors centre during the opening hours of 'De Watersnip'. You can also explore the Stimulus Path with a nature guide. The path is about 2.5 km long and can easily be done with an all-terrain buggy.

When: every day except Mondays from April 1 to October 31 from 1 to 4 p.m.

In south-east Tongeren you can step out of the lively buzz of the city centre, straight into a calm, green oasis. The extensive De Kevie nature reserve is home to many valuable flora and fauna. Empty meadows give way to dense marshland, while the river Jeker meanders through valley woodlands full of thick woodland borders, centuries-old knot willows and transparent pools and ditches. Every day, hundreds of walkers, cyclists and sport lovers come here to enjoy the fresh air.

From now on, discover the brand new nature house de Kevie. Volunteers will be happy to give you more information about this beautiful piece of nature in Tongeren.

GOaLF-land Eksel: footgolf, bike&golf, walk&golf and more

Voetgolf, bike&golf, walk&golf, bike&escape, walk&escape,...

These terms probably don't say you a lot, it are unique experiences in Hechtel-Eksel. Play a combination off soccer and golf on a terrain off 2ha or do a tour by foot or by bike and put the golf ball a few times in a hole, or go for a hunt to solve a mystery, an escape-experience where you walk or cycle in the nature and village off Hechtel-Eksel.

As you see, we have something for young and old, check or site for more information!

After an activity there is a good chance that you are thirsty, you can come to us for that too. We have a range of soft drinks, beers, wine, ice cream and more. Of course you can also just come and have a drink with a view on the footgolf field.

Welcome in Lieteberg

Discover a unique piece of nature at the intersection of three regions. The Kempen, the Maasland and Haspengouw are never far away here.
In Lieteberg, you stand with both feet in the Hoge Kempen National Park and can enjoy peace and quiet during one of the many signposted walking and cycling routes in and around Lieteberg.

With more than 10,000 ha of forest and heathland, it is a lovely place to be during a walk or cycle trip.

Negenoord Nature Reserve

"Negenoord-Kerkeweerd nature reserve (Dilsen-Stokkem) was once a gravel extraction site. Today, it is one of the many nature reserves being created along both the Belgian and Dutch sides of the Grensmaas. At the same time, a large cross-border 'Meuse Valley River Park' spanning over 2,500 hectares is being created, gravel is being extracted and more space is being provided for the river. This limits the risk of flooding.

In harmony with nature
The Negenoord-Kerkeweerd nature reserve is managed all year round using Konik ponies and Galloway cattle. They create a mosaic structure with open spaces, flower-rich brushwood and bushes. Recently, the beaver was also introduced to help out. Because of their grazing pattern and the supply of lime-rich gravel and seeds from the south, you find flowers and plants in Negenoord-Kerkeweerd that you will hardly find anywhere else in Limburg (except in the areas of the Meuse).
This floral paradise in turn benefits a great many butterflies and bees, such as the rare Andrena hattorfiana bee and the Queen of Spain fritillary.

This unique hiking area recently acquired an observation tower.
The tower was built in the middle of the area, on a mound at the highest point. The loam tower occupies a spot in the centre of the hiking area and offers visitors a wonderful view of the Meuse Valley River Park. Only natural materials such as clay, sand and Meuse gravel were used, all in the right proportions.

Roving adventurers
Because Negenoord-Kerkeweerd is so vast, you can roam around the ‘struin’ zone (area where visitors are allowed to roam freely). There are no paths, but you can follow those made by the Konik ponies or Galloway cattle and pretend you are in the middle of nowhere.
To guarantee the large grazers and other wildlife in the area are not disturbed, we do ask that you do not take dogs into the ’struin’ zone. Dogs are welcome on the footpaths in other parts of the hiking area."

The National Park Bosland cherishes the largest Flemish natural massif and allows it to continue to grow into an ecological, attractive and internationally exemplary region in which our current and future generations live and experience.

The most child-friendly forest in word and deed. National Park Bosland wants to reach children and does so by approaching them personally. That is why in National Park Bosland we do not talk about "trips with the kids. No, in this National Park children go on an Expedition. During the treasure hunt they rest in a special National Park Woodland hammock!

Because many experiential products have been developed for the little ones: exciting treasure hunts and geocaches, adventurous playgrounds, ... to name a few. There is also a huge range of quality trails for hikers, cyclists, mountain bikers and horseback riders.

However, before the chest reveals its secrets, you need to find the secret code by solving the questions during a playful hike through Borgloon.

The hike is ± 4,5 km long and starts at Visit Borgloon. Please remember to finish before closing hours, or the chest will remain closed.

The Molenvijver & sundial park

The Molenvijver Park in the centre of Genk was originally a swampland that was fed by the Dorpsbeek. In 1967, the Molenvijvers were converted into a city park. The authentic watermill is now a restaurant.

You have a view from the Molenvijvers Park onto the most beautiful villas in Molenstraat. Number 80 is La Maison Blanche, the artist Armand Maclot’s villa.

You’ll also find a sundial park here, with no fewer than 12 ways to tell the time.
In this park in Genk you’ll find 12 contemporary sundials. They were designed byJan De Graeve with the help of gnomonists and artists from various European countries. The project brings together scientific ingenuity, modern technology and artistic design. Discover the creativity of scientists and the reasoning of artists or ... how art and science can complement each other. Even when the sun isn’t shining, it’s certainly worth visiting the park.

“Play orchard” with picnic and barbecue area

On the Roman road, amidst the hills and orchards, lies the play- and experience orchard of Grootloon. Here, you will find lots of fun facts, a peaceful picnic area, and a small playground with a giant hammock.
Near the wooden shelter, there is a public barbecue that you can use after making a reservation at the Borgloon youth service. Upon reservation, you will receive all the information needed to barbecue in this unique environment.

In a large open mown circle you sit nice and close to each other, surrounded by a sculpture of wooden branches. So you literally find yourself in a cozy cocoon. A unique experience!

Many people know the recreation domain ‘het Kapelleke’, as it developed around the chapel of Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-aan-de-staak, which has been a place of pilgrimage ever since 1826.

The focus in this forest area lies on the lookout tower. From the tower you can admire the typical Kempen countryside. You’ll find trick pin courses, a playground, mini golf and a paddling pond.

Come discover the multi-move path with the kids in the Kelchterhoef domain. An active experience path through the forest and over water with fun play elements.
Along the path there are natural obstacles and wooden constructions that challenge children to play on them.

There are a total of 12 movement skills on the 2.5-kilometer-long trail.
A large hanging net invites children to romp to their heart's content.
There are climbing and stepping poles, a balance beam, ducking rack, xylophone, hollow convex bridge, water pump, wobble bridge, etc.
On all these devices children can climb, jump, land, hit, slide, pull and push, walk and run.

Picnic

There are many delightful picnic spots in and around Bilzen and especially Alden Biesen, that you can use the whole year round. Just take a seat at one of the brand-new picnic tables in the English park, sit on the lawn with a view of the castle, or choose your picnic spot in the largest orchard in Flanders.
A path of about 2 km enables even persons with reduced mobility to enjoy the fruit trees in their full splendour. They can explore them up close using the raised wooden footpath that winds its way through the orchard.
You can bring your own picnic or you can order a basket from the Bilzen Tourist Information Centre carefully composed of the most delicious local products (to be collected during opening hours of the Tourist Information Centre).

‘Archaeologist for a Day’ treasure hunt

The ‘Archaeologist for a Day’ treasure hunt takes you on a trip to the archaeological park De Rieten, where burial mounds and unusual objects from the Iron Age have been found. Search for treasures from the past, crack codes, solve riddles, and discover if you are a Celt or a Roman. This kid-friendly treasure hunt with fun tasks for children aged 9 and up includes a brochure, a floor plan, a measuring tape, a magnifying glass, and a pencil. Scan QR codes located along the route and carry out playful tasks. You’ll even get tips and tricks to do some archaeological work at home afterwards.
