Maaseik, one of the five Maas municipalities, exudes authentic cosiness. Its listed facades in Maasland architectural style, several heritage museums and Belgium's oldest private pharmacy are all worth a visit. The birthplace of the painter brothers Van Eyck is a cultural gem with one of the most beautiful market squares in the country.
In the hiking area Maaseik and Aldeneik, part of River Park Maasvallei, you combine culture and nature. Various routes take you past the historic centre of Maaseik, through picturesque Aldeneik, along the gravel lake of Heerenlaak and the Maasdijk in Ophoven.
Another fun stopover, but a little further on: Wijndomein Aldeneyck. The warm microclimate on the Meuse and the fertile soil allow the vines to flourish. The vineyards on the banks of the Meuse give you an instant southern feeling: admire them up close on a guided tour with tasting. Santé!
For hours of splashing fun, visit the Aquadrome. The pools are made of stainless steel and equipped with underwater LED lights for extra atmosphere. The 125-metre-long tyre slide is great fun for young and old alike. How about something a bit more exciting? Real adventurers venture into the dark black-hole slide with special light effects!
