Centrally located in Limburg, Heusden-Zolder is perhaps best known for its race track. As a former mining municipality, there is a lot of restored mining heritage to visit. And for nature lovers: the municipality is part of De Wijers, the land of 1001 ponds.


Things to do in Heusden-Zolder

In 1992, the Zolder mine was the last in the Benelux to close its doors. The end of an era, but also the beginning of something new. The monumental heritage was restored and given a new purpose. In the impressive compressor room ZLDR AIR FACTORY, discover how miners could breathe and work 800 metres underground.Several walks take you through typical mining communities and to the top of the old mining ridge.

You can easily spend a whole day at Bovy Domain. It is the ideal starting point to explore the countless ponds of De Wijers. The domain is extremely child-friendly, with fun tailored walks, a cuddle farm, a large playground and a cosy sun terrace. Hikers choose from 5 signposted routes and step right into the heart of this exceptional area. Climb to the top of Bolderberg and you will be treated to a soothing view of the ponds and Terlaemen Castle.
