The highlight of this stage is a gift right from the start. be-MINE, the Beringen mining site, is one of the largest industrial heritage sites in Flanders and the best-preserved mining site in Europe. In some places, everything seems untouched since its closure in 1989. Get your calves working with a climb of the slag heaps and then dive into the Valley of the Zwarte Beek. It is one of the most valuable nature areas in Flanders, with a surprising variety of soggy stream valleys to bone-dry heathland.
You will cross the Koerselse Heide, where you can admire the Koersels Kapelleke, a testament to centuries-old Marian devotion. You end at the foot of the Zolder slag heap. Continuing on the Streek-GR Limburgse Mijnen? Then the climb of the slag heap is the subject of Stage 7.
