This slightly longer hiking route combines the best Haspengouw has to offer. You hike from village to village with their characteristic fruit landscapes, square farms and fairytale castles along the way. The path regularly descends to below ground level. Indeed, sunken lanes are quite common in this region.

In Zammelen, you wander through a green treasure trove of flower-filled hayfields, hedges and wooded borders. The loop takes you through the valleys of several meandering streams that liven up the landscape with carr and mysterious marshes.

Between Jesseren and Piringen, you walk several kilometres along the Fruit Trail, the former railway line that was used to transport fruit and agricultural crops. The former railway station stands like a silent witness along your route.

The many castles along the way also testify to that rich past. Regularly cast your gaze to the east, as chances are you will see the gleaming tower of Tongeren's Basilica of Our Lady in the distance.

This landscape hike is managed by the municipalities of Kortessem, Tongeren, Borgloon and the Regional Landscape Haspengouw and Voeren.
