Hageven-De Plateaux – purple hiking route

Nature knows no boundaries and certainly not in northern Limburg. A 600-hectare oasis of heathland, fens, forests and grasslands spans Belgium and the Netherlands. Here in the Hageven - De Plateaux, the river Dommel meanders its way through this captivating landscape.

Natuurpunt carefully manages this area that stretches across the national border like a patchwork of diverse natural landscapes. Hayfields, nutrient-poor grasslands and heathland alternate with fens and ponds. Whatever the season, you can unwind here in the blissful tranquillity.

Birders are in for a real treat here. Two birdwatching huts located in just the right spots provide the chance to see plenty of aerial acrobats. Watch the birdie! The adventurous suspension bridge over the river Dommel is the Instagram hotspot on this route!
