Experience the best Haspengouw has to offer on the Grootloon orange route. This 9.3 km hike leads you through a rolling landscape of fruit orchards, meadows and fields.
The hike starts in the centre of Borgloon. From the castle hill cast an admiring glance at the area you are going to traverse, with the vineyard of Castle De Grote Mot nearby.
You’ll encounter plenty of challenging climbs on this hike. At the top of Bollenberg, follow the old Roman road, which is as straight as an arrow, because the Romans were not keen on detours.
The route not only offers stunning views but also fascinating works of art, such as the see-through church 'Reading between the Lines' and ‘Twijfelgrens’. Lay out your picnic blanket amid the orchards and bask in the tranquillity of the Haspengouw countryside with your picnic basket filled with local produce.
The route is mostly hilly and unpaved, so a good piece of Limburg fruit flan afterwards is well deserved!
