Mine railway and port
The Genebos Port (Lummen) on the Albert Canal was completed in 1938, along with the rail link of about eight kilometres to the Zolder mining site.
After the closure of the mine, the mine railway was broken up to make way for a cycle path, part of the Limburg cycling route network, which connects the mine site to the canal. This trail passes through the Mangelbeek Valley nature reserve, where mining subsidence areas have created swamp or carr forests.
