A view of Sint-Truiden and Haspengouw
Discover the most beautiful viewpoints in and around Sint-Truiden. The cycle
route network takes you past five enchanting locations where you can
‘zoom in’ on the landscape. The accompanying panorama boards reveal the
secrets of the landscape, including its ancient heritage, hard-working local
producers and tourist attractions.
New viewpoint
At the highest point in Helshoven, you can now enjoy a breathtaking view of the Haspengouw landscape.
Artist Frits Jeuris designed a unique creation made of dozens of felled fruit trees from the area. The latest platform offers a little more. It is embedded in “Helsh(ea)ven”, a work of art made of 90 cherry trees of fifty years old. At the end of 2016, they fell prey to the Little Cherry Virus, an infectious plant disease that causes too small fruit in cherries. Now the felled trees get a second life. The work symbolizes the dynamic landscape of Haspengouw.
In addition to the abbey tower, the ‘Viersprong’ in Nieuwenhoven, the ‘Honsberg’ in Zepperen and the panorama basin in Velm, it is also the fifth panorama point along the Haspengouw route network.

On foot: departure from the chapel of Helshoven, walk into the Romeinse Kassei, after +/- 500 meters you will arrive at the viewpoint.
