CYCLING THROUGH WATER

At junction 91 on the cycle route network you cycle through the water. You don’t need to wear wellies or a wetsuit, because, as luck would have it, you stay on dry land. But the cycle path takes you through the pond from one bank to the other. And at one point you cycle with the surface of the water at eye level on both sides. That's fun!

The Kruinenpad

As of the dike of the Zuid-Willemsvaart, you will leave for a unique adventure, literally being ‘a high-level experience’. The Tree Crown Path passes through the crowns of the trees and is a real elevated bridge installed in the mine subsidence area. This unique trail provides a privileged view of the remarkable consequences of the mine subsidence in a beautiful setting. But your eyes will also be popping out of your head with all those birds and insects between the trees. The Kruinenpad is 181 meters long.

The Kruinenpad is located between cycling junctions 48 and 55.
Do you want to discover the Kruinenpad on foot? Follow the red-blazed trail (14km) from RivierPark Maasvallei, departing from Leut.

Do you want to visit The Kruinenpad by car? Park in parallel at the end of Kerkhofstraat in Eisden-Dorp and walk towards the canal dyke. Attention! Do not park past the barrier even if it is open.

Free admission.

THE MEUSE CYCLE ROUTE

For cyclists of all levels, the Meuse Cycle Route follows one of the most important rivers in Europe.

From the plateau of Langres to the town of Hoek van Holland, you may discover the Meuse as you have never seen it before. Go ahead, step on your bike and discover 3 countries (France, Belgium and Netherlands), by cycling over 1152 kilometers of marked roads and 30 stages, which will take you through the many towns and villages spread out along the cycling route.

Thanks to the clever junction system, it takes no time at all to cycle from Genk city centre to the verdant outskirts… or vice versa! Along the way, you pass all Genk’s main sights, so either take your time or whizz along, as the mood takes you.
Attractive picnic spots, bicycle-friendly accommodation and places of interest are all marked on the map.
Copies of the free cycling map outlining the three circular routes are available from C-mine Visitor Centre, from bicycle hire outlets and the place where you are staying.

You can hire bicycles in the Kattevennen and Bokrijk domains, at the station in the centre and at C-mine. If you are taking your own bicycle to the cycling point at the station, you can have minor repairs carried out or park your bicycle under cover.

Also for the MTB or E-MTB we have MTB specialists who allow the participants to enjoy trips safely through the most beautiful places and routes through the Limburg forests and fields.
There is also the possibility to rent a bike or E-bike.

Would you like to explore Lanaken by bike but don't have a bike with you? No worries. At Domein Pietersheim, you can easily rent one, from the Easter holidays to the autumn holidays.

The range consists of 'Giant' city bikes (with 7 gears), children's bikes, e-bikes, mountain bikes and even tandem bikes!

For groups of 10 people or more, booking in advance is a must. Warning: bicycles remain reserved until 11 am at the latest. There are permanently around 25 bicycles in the house for adults. The rental service also has a number of children's bicycles. Providing a timely request (at least two weeks prior to the planned bicycle date), it is perfectly possible to expand the number of bicycles, even for very large groups.
