In Kelchterhoef you can fully experience the ponds of De Wijers. Settle down on the tree-dream sofa at Hoeve Mieneke or relax on the deck in the pond. Have a nice picnic on the special picnic island on the pond behind the Abdijhoeve. How do you get there? Shoes off and walk through the water!

Discover the bridge with a suspension bridge for children, paths over the water and through forests, the tree ladder with which you can peek into the crown of an old chestnut tree and the decking for fishing.

The children can reminisce on the beautiful natural playground at Hoeve Jan. With the little ones you follow the green Beestig Bomenpad, where Norbert de eik teaches you all about De Wijers and Kelchterhoef. Or jump and clamber on the Multimove trail. The entire park invites you to lie down, enjoy or play. There is so much to experience that you should definitely come back.

Twijfelgrens - Fred Eerdekens

In Borgloon, Fred Eerdekens (BE) shows a folded line in the landscape.
You will find a wooden-like sculpture where you - only when looking from the right angle - can read the word 'twijfelgrens' (doubt border). Fred Eerdekens often uses language as a medium for his artworks. At the same time, his work is a reflection on how language works. For Twijfelgrens you have to assume the right position to be able to read the "concealed" word and to gain insight.

By car: park your car on parking Pb on the Sint-
Truidersteenweg between the Grootloonstraat and the

Standing on the highest look-outs, information is given about the impressive landscape, heritage, local manufacturers and tourist attractions. Panorama signs and spectacles are used.

- Abbey tower
The viewpoint on the abbey tower, which is the beacon of the city, is the only viewpoint that is located in the center. From here you get a beautiful view of the city and the haspengouw nature that embraces the city. At bike junction 135.
- Viersprong Nieuwenhoven
On the Viersprong, located between Engelbamp and Heide, there is a lookout point that overlooks the southern Sint-Truiden, whose skyline is clearly recognizable on clear days. At bike junction 150.
- Honsberg Zepperen
From the higher Honsberg or Hongarenberg (Hungarians settled here) you can view the village with binoculars: with the Sint-Genovava church, the meadows of d’Oye and on the horizon the tower of the basilica of Kortenbos. A breathtaking view over the typical Haspengouw nature. Between bike junction 171 and 149.
- Panorama basin Romeinse Weg
On the Romeinse Weg in Velm, you will come across a water basin in the middle of the Haspengouw fields. Go up the stairs to the platform and discover a 360° panoramic view of the area. Between bike junction 185 and 186.
- Helsh(ea)ven
At the highest point in Helshoven, you can now enjoy a breathtaking view of the Haspengouw landscape. Artist Frits Jeuris designed a unique creation made of dozens of felled fruit trees from the area. The latest platform offers a little more. It is embedded in “Helsh(ea)ven”, a work of art made of 90 cherry trees of fifty years old. At the end of 2016, they fell prey to the Little Cherry Virus, an infectious plant disease that causes too small fruit in cherries. Now the felled trees get a second life. The work symbolizes the dynamic landscape of Haspengouw. At bike junction 169.

Wandeling 'Levend Zand' - Oudsberg

Put on your walking shoes because this is a brisk walk through the woods and moors. Ascending the Oudsberg and then visiting the blueberry plantation are the absolute highlights. Spot rare flora and fauna along the way. Sweet treats add some fabulous flavour to the walk.

City Walk Bree

Bree has three city halls! The oldest one is located on the Market and is now the home base for tourism and information. The building contains a remarkable rococo pediment in which the coat of arms of Bree is incorporated. The second city hall is located on the City Square and currently houses the Peace Court and the services of the Ministry of Finance. This city hall has a unique balcony, from which King Boudewijn, Queen Fabiola, Prince Filip, Princess Mathilde, but also Kim Clijsters, have greeted the gathered crowd. The current city hall, located on the Free Square, was a former monastery and school. The building is 17th century and a real gem. Both the outside with the beautiful Renaissance garden, and the inside are worth a visit. This and much more can be found during your city walk in Bree. The route is free to pick up at Tourism Bree. There is also the possibility to take a city walk with a guide, which can be reserved through Tourism Bree.

The Eggertingen nature reserve is located in the south of Kortessem and ends in Hoeselt and Borgloon. On foot you will discover the (bio)diversity of 3 streams and their valleys. Along the slopes you will get to know surprising views of old landscape elements such as beautiful wooded edges, standard orchards and flower-rich meadows.

In the Uilenbos there are, in addition to the wood anemone, the spotted arum, the celandine weed can also admire the ground elder and the wasp orchid.

You can explore the Eggertingen nature reserve via 2 routes, each between 5 and 10 km.

Enjoy this lovely greenspot and castle on walking distance of the Market Place. The walking tour ‘Hidden beauties’ guides you through the Regional Landscape Haspengouw and Voeren. The beautiful rose garden is being maintained by the gardeners of ‘Tuinhier Volkstuinen’ and Wiric. Children can visit the new inhabitants (alpaca’s, goats, pigs, rabbits, mule’s, pony’s…) and enjoy themselves on the playground, surrounded by nature and threes. You can sit down and grab a bite or have a drink in Afspanning ‘t Speelhof.

The Kruinenpad

As of the dike of the Zuid-Willemsvaart, you will leave for a unique adventure, literally being ‘a high-level experience’. The Tree Crown Path passes through the crowns of the trees and is a real elevated bridge installed in the mine subsidence area. This unique trail provides a privileged view of the remarkable consequences of the mine subsidence in a beautiful setting. But your eyes will also be popping out of your head with all those birds and insects between the trees. The Kruinenpad is 181 meters long.

The Kruinenpad is located between cycling junctions 48 and 55.
Do you want to discover the Kruinenpad on foot? Follow the red-blazed trail (14km) from RivierPark Maasvallei, departing from Leut.

Do you want to visit The Kruinenpad by car? Park in parallel at the end of Kerkhofstraat in Eisden-Dorp and walk towards the canal dyke. Attention! Do not park past the barrier even if it is open.

There are 15 starting points in the area, to start your hike.

Genk changed in the twentieth century from a quiet rural commune into one of the most important industrial poles in Flandres. Neel Doff, a writer was an important witness of the beginning of this evolution. We talk about Russian prisoners and English pilotes. How did people live in the fifties in a garden suburb. And how did the car industry shape the city in the sixties.

The little donkeys of B & B De Romeinse Katzei are eager to go out with you.

We mapped out 2 loop walks :

- The walking loop ' Reading between the Lines ' is a 7,5 km loop walk with start and finish at B & B De Romeinse Katzei. Along the way we stop at Landmark Roman Villa for a snack and a drink. Highlight of the walk ( besides walking with the donkeys themselves ! ) is the see-through church, Reading between the Lines .

- The walking route 'Looking for Hellsheaven ' is also 7,5 km and starts and ends at B & B De Romeinse Katzei. Along the way we stop at the Tjenneboom for refreshments.

Before going on a walk with Nelleke, Olina or one of the other donkeys , there will be an extensive cuddling moment and they will be prepared by you for the walk.

At Kisserhoeve, we offer a variety of different donkey experiences in Kempen~Broek. Kempen~Broek is a veritable patchwork of different landscapes, where marshes feature alongside brook valleys, fens, woods, heath, meadows, pastures, fields and large-scale agricultural areas. In short, something for everyone, with water as the recurring theme.

Our experiences:

- Donkey walk
You’ll get to lead our easy-going donkeys on a walk. Once you arrive, you’ll be welcomed by our team, and given a 15-minute introductory session going over health and safety, and to pair you up with the perfect donkey for you! Then, it’s time to set off! You’ll walk alongside your donkey and lead them around rural roads and nature.
You'll receive a backpack with a snack for you and the donkeys!
You can choose two distances, 5 km and 6,5 km.

Happiness... is making memories together!

- Kisserweide experience (only in spring-summer)
For a few hours you will have our grassland: 'Kisserweide' with the donkeys. You can freely use the accommodation. Taking care of the donkeys, taking a walk. Playing with games from "the wooden cabin", relaxing in the sitting area with picnic table. You can choose whatever you want to do, there is no timetable for activities. Picnic is allowed. Hiking trails to use with the donkeys are available.

In Genk you can enjoy walking in the green. Have you ever tried the Planetenpad?

The planet trail is a 1.4 km walk through the wooded Kattevennen. Meet the eight planets of our Solar System and enjoy all the beauty that nature has to offer.
The solar system is presented here 4 billion times smaller than in reality.

Please note: this route is not a loop. The start is at the Kattevennen visitors' centre. You can return in two ways. Either you go back down the trail, but then in the opposite direction, or you follow the green walking route (total distance 4.5 km) to the visitors centre.

This 200-hectare desert-like landscape with its bright blue lakes and pine and deciduous forests offers a unique walking backdrop. Wide landscapes alternate with heathland, ponds and a canal. The impressive observation tower and pedestrian bridge offer you great views. For children there are play forests and play elements along the way

Gnome Trail

The Gnome Trail at Domein Pietersheim has been one of the most popular attractions for years. Along the 3 km trail, children are invited to take part in various games, with colourful information along the route providing the details. The kids get to hug the big tree, crawl through a natural tunnel, make music with real gnome instruments or simply dream away in the park.

The Gnome Trail underwent a transformation in the spring of 2020. We welcomed new gnomes to the woods, new squirrels that show you the way and more little houses to discover. As the icing on the cake, there is a large gnome house at the children’s farm. The Gnome Trail can be started at the information signs at the children’s farm or at the moated castle bridge. Both follow the same route (indicated on posts). No map is needed. Distance: 40,000 gnome steps.

Butterfly walk

From egg to caterpillar, from caterpillar to chrysalis, from chrysalis to butterfly: on this walk children learn about the different stages of a butterfly’s development while playing. The fairytale-like play and experience elements by artist Will Beckers that you encounter along the way are accompanied by educational explanations and tasks for children.

From egg to caterpillar… and from cocoon to butterfly… A butterfly only mates once in its life and can lay 200 to 300 eggs. Some butterfly species drop their eggs as they fly. And those are the eggs that you come across as stepping stones on your way through the woods. You will also find a jumbo and playable caterpillar, the butterfly’s miraculous growth process in the cocoon and a real butterfly takes children on its flight.

Stimulus Path

Experience nature along the route that was created for children and young people with a disability. The Stimulus Path starts at the Flemish Visitors Centre ‘De Watersnip’. Along the walking route you will pass 12 "experience elements". They include touch boxes, a sound labyrinth, a wiglo, a visual wall, touching stones, etc. Visitors are stimulated with scents, sounds (or silence), colours, structures, movements, etc. The five senses play a central role in the development of children.

The Stimulus Path is fun for everyone, especially for families with young children. Part of the path runs through the playground at the Koersels Kapelleke.

You can borrow a guide book from the visitors centre during the opening hours of 'De Watersnip'. You can also explore the Stimulus Path with a nature guide. The path is about 2.5 km long and can easily be done with an all-terrain buggy.
