This is all about enjoying an extensive trail network in and around the Warmbeek valey.
It offers you the opportunity to discover 16 different trails from 1,3 km to 13,9 km, and you can easily combine different trails.
Besides the unique nature, there are everywhere remnants of its rich historical past.

The hiking routes of ‘Station As’ will show you the typical landscape of the ‘Hoge Kempen’. The vast heather fields of yore have been replaces by pine forests and farm land. Still, there are some beautiful areas that will give you an idea of the former heather, like ‘Bosheide’, or ‘Driebanken’. The ‘Dilserbos’ and the ‘Lanklaarderbos’ will challenge your courage with some sturdy slopes of the ‘Kempens Plateau’.

The history of Limburg as a mining area has left its traces in the landscape. Old forests, country roads and homesteads will paint you a picture of the past. As an added bonus, 2 hiking routes take you through the enchanting landscape of the valley of the ‘Bosbeek’, an area with soft sloping hills, humid swamps and clear water of the ‘Bosbeek’.

With the exception of the ‘Vierlandsherenpunt’, all hiking routes starting at the ‘Lieteberg’ fall outside the National Park. This does not mean they are not very charming natural areas on themselves. They are situated on the soft slanting southern hillside of the ‘Hoge Kempen’. Most heather has given way to pine forests, but you can still find some very nice relics of heather at the ‘Bezoensberg’. And the ‘Hesselberg’ contains the second biggest plantation of juniper. More to the south, the regions ‘Hoefaert’, ‘Roelen’ and ‘Gellik’ have a lot to offer. In ‘Hoefaert’ and ‘Roelen’ you will find some very diversified woodlands, whilst ‘Gellik’ is situated near the border with ‘Haspengouw’, which explains the amount of orchards around the villages.

Hoge Kempen National Park

The only National Park in Belgium! If you want to fill your lungs with fresh air, this is the place for you!
The gateways are the ideal starting places from where you can explore the National Park and all it has to offer!

In the Mechelse Heide, nature speaks for itself: beautiful heathland as far as the eye can see! Or would you rather climb the mining-stone hills in Terhills, previously known as Connecterra, to enjoy a breath-taking panorama? Relive the noble past in the moated castle in Pietersheim or visit the children's farm with playground. In Kattevennen, you can sit back and let yourself be carried away by the 360° projections in the Cosmodrome, while a barefoot trip in Lieteberg will never leave you disappointed! If you’re bringing bikes, then Station As is your ideal starting point.

The National Park with its dark green forests, vast heathland and shimmering fens invites you to go out on a hike. You can choose from 82 signposted loops, which start at the gateways. They are easy to combine thanks to the hiking switches. Did you know that two walks in Pietersheim carry a Premium quality label? If you’ve still got some energy left, then why don’t you have a go at the long-distance hike of 75 km?

We’re confident that cyclists and mountain bikers, too, will find what they are looking for here! Thanks to the network of cycling tracks, you can easily create your own route. Mountain bikers have the choice of 10 signposted loops, ranging from 16 to 80 km, all varying in difficulty.

We even have a whole network of trails for horse riders. With clear signs and clear maps, you will never lose your way!

Would you like to strike out with a local? Every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month, a Ranger sets off from one of the gateways. Groups can also book their own Rangers online.

We definitely recommend the short hike through the castle park. With its deciduous forest, its avenues and its orchards, it has a very different character then the drier ‘Hoge Kempen’. Almost all of the hiking routes are situated inside the National Park, sometimes significant climbing is necessary due to the differences in height of the terrain.
