Hierarchy was important during the mining industry and that was visible on the estate. The director lived in a villa surrounded by unique English and French gardens. After an arsonist struck, this beautiful building was reduced to a ruin. The park was given a thorough cleaning and was replanted. Every large city has a park, and so does Beringen. It is a great place to walk, practice sports and enjoy the peace and quiet.

When: The park is open every day.
Price: Free! Groups can hire a guide. The guide fee is € 60 (for the first 2 hours).

Burgemeesterspark (Mayor’s Park) is a green lung in the middle of town. Close to the Burgemeestershuis and Sint-Pietersbanden Church. This atmospheric city park with monumental trees and artful park residents, is Lommel’s chill out and picnic spot par excellence when the sun in shining.

Art and music are never far away in Burgemeesterspark. Designed by landscape architect Paul Deroose and it is inhabited by ‘De Buitenmens’. A statue by Henk Visch whose crazy posture captures the attention at once.

Tip: Burgemeesterspark is also the ideal spot to listen to the carillon concerts on Wednesday afternoons.

The hiking-port par excellence. Numerous hiking trails lead hikers through the vast moors of National Park Hoge Kempen. From mid-August to mid-September the Heath is full in bloom. Some of us have your rock climbing routes. The reward? Views on a clear day in the Netherlands and Germany and even in the Hautes Fagnes. Use the map to combine easy routes or pieces of hikes. New: the Zandloperpad is a 1.5 km long, paved path that will introduce you with the typical landscape of the Hoge Kempen Heath and sand dunes. On the way the characteristic habitats of this landscape passed. The path is paved, so that can enjoy wheelchair users and young families with prams the beautiful landscape.

A water paradise for anyone who loves the sun and water!

You don’t need to be a water rat to enjoy yourself at this special water paradise. There’s so much to do you won’t know where to start jumping in and swimming. For the very smallest members of your family, there’s a lovely water playground. The outdoor baths are open from 1st July to 31st August. Then there’s also the wave pool, water playground, waterslide, fast-flowing river, water cannon and fountains.

When the weather is less fine, the indoor pool with its hot whirlpool is a great way to relax. And you can also get away from all that swimming and larking about and relax on the expansive sun lawn. The large terraces with catering facilities have great views out over the swimming paradise.

De Soeverein Park is nestled in the heart of Limburg’s rolling green landscape, on the edge of the Sahara nature reserve. De Soeverein Park is a talking point on all levels. Because of its architectural design and stylish decor, but also because of its programme of sports and cultural events. Spreading over an area of more than 5500 square meters, the most diverse events take place here. The Belgian International Tattoo, Michael Flatley, international sports teams and many others have already trod the boards of the multifunctional arena!

Tip: Optisport Sports Centre, with its new swimming pool and tennis hall, is definitely worth a visit. You can have a drink or a bite to eat in brasserie De Kantine.

Like the cycling network, this network is a junction system that allows you to create your own trip. All the routes are clearly marked. It is possible to follow the routes in both directions. More information on the distances between the different junctions can be found on the horse riding maps.
