The former colliery at Eisden has undergone a veritable metamorphosis. Until 1987, it was a place of industry and hard work; now it is primarily a place to enjoy nature and peace and quiet.
The most beautiful panorama
Connecterra, the main entrance to the Hoge Kempen National Park, has the most beautiful panorama of Flanders. Yes, it’s true! The iconic “green mountains” have featured in the background of many Instagram photos. These mountains are actually mine slag heaps that have been completely overtaken by nature. In Eisden itself, various old colliery buildings are still standing that have found a new lease of life as a cinema, hotel or restaurant for example.
